Michael Detmar obtained his M.D. degree from the University of Freiburg, Germany, in 1984. He performed his clinical training in dermatology at the Free University of Berlin where he was appointed Assistant Professor of Dermatology in 1991. He was a faculty member at Harvard Medical School from 1993 to 2005. In 1998, he was appointed as an Associate Professor of Dermatology at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA. In 2004, he was appointed Professor and Chair of Pharmacogenomics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, ETH Zurich. Since 2013, he is an elected member of the Research Council of the Swiss National Science Foundation, and in 2015 he was elected as a member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.
He serves as a Section Editor for the Journal of Investigative Dermatology and The Journal of Dermatological Science, and he is the European Editor of Lymphatic Research and Biology.
